Don’t Kill Bees !!!

Something important to know is if you kill the bees there will be honey, wax, and hive remnants left behind. Leaving dead bees in your wall, ceiling, or floor will create a rancid odor as they decompose. When the bees are dead or in a weakened state, the Small Hive Beetle, which is very hard to kill, lays millions of eggs on the comb and dead bees. These eggs hatch into maggots which also causes the honey in the comb to ferment producing a sour smell which will permeate the house and last for weeks to months. The fermenting honey then runs down the walls, ruining drywall, and staining ceilings. The maggots become so numerous that they boil over dropping out of walls trying to find their way outside. The comb must be removed! Sealing a colony in that is infested with hive beetles, will force them into your home. Not trying to scare you, just telling you what the exterminators won’t. I can show you pictures of what happens if you want…. Bee Removal Orlando is our specialty!
We will remove everything including the bees, comb, eggs, larva, and any dead bees for you. Doing this will insure that bees do not return, as well as any other pest. We will do our best to not harm the bees when removing them, and then we take them to a rehab bee yard where we will give them a European queen and monitor them to make sure they are healthy. If they survive the first year we will move them to a working bee yard where they can pollinate and produce honey. Bees pollinate lots of our crops, and they are very important to the environment.

Some Facts About Honey Bees:

Common places bees in Orlando like to nest:
Exterior walls, concrete block walls, electric meters, water meters, roofs, soffits, gutters, drains, pipes, trees, branches, limbs, debris, between floors, mailboxes, recycle bins, flower pots, trash cans, under sheds, under mobile homes.
Bees will form a cluster on the outside, and given time make their way into these places. It takes only 24hrs for the honeybees to start making their wax. Honeybee nests and hives often go unnoticed for months before they are discovered. In these cases other pests become attracted to the smell of the honey such as wax moth, small hive beetle(SHB), roaches, ants, and even mice or rats. Honeybees can swarm up to 4 or 5 times a year moving to a new place nearby as the original hive continues to live. Migrating swarms will find a vacant honey bee nests and it will be re-colonized. The wax that was built along with the sweet smelling honey attracts the bees to move in.

Don’t Spray The Bees!

Household sprays do not work effectively; common sprays only arouse the honeybees sending them in to defense mode where they could potentially attack. African bees (AHB) will do exactly what European (EHB) bees do, only sooner and in larger numbers. Every situation is different depending on your location, where the bees are located. My bee yards are in Oviedo and Tampa. Call for a Free Estimate.

Not For The “Do-It-Yourself”er (DIY)

I’ve seen where yellow foam was used in attempt to seal the bees in, causing even more problems. Sometimes it works and runs all the bees into the house or out some other opening. When it doesn’t work, it becomes more of an obstacle when the we come to try and remove them. Whether or not pesticides are used it is always necessary to remove all the honey so migrating bees don’t move back in later. Specialized tools are required. Not recommended for the do-it-yourselfer!

Swarm Removal Orlando

One of the most common phrases people use around bees is, “A Swarm of Bees”. A Swarm is the way bees reproduce as a species. In the spring and during the summer, the Mother queen will lay special eggs in special cells that will become new Daughter queens. A few days before the daughters emerge, the Mother queen will leave the colony, taking about half of the living bees with her! A swarm is born. She will usually land on a nearby branch and all the workers will ball up around her. usually about the size of a football. A few workers will then become scouts, looking for a new nest site location. Once a site has been chosen, the swarm will move all at once.

Honey Bee Nest

Honey bees have glands on their abdomen that produce wax. Consuming honey makes these gland secrete wax, which is what they use to make the nest, or comb. Comb is where all the resources are stored including the honey. A healthy colony will have anywhere from a 5 gallon bucket worth of material, all they way up to a 55 gallon steel drum of material! They never stop building, which is why we can take honey, its extra.

Beehive Removal | Honey Bee Removal Orlando

The proper term here is actually honey bee removal. But, you would only know that if your a beekeeper! A beehive is a man-made box that bees are housed in, as apposed to a honey bee colony, which lives in a tree, a box, or a man-made “hive”. Yellow Jackets, Wasps, and Hornets

Our main focus is on the honey bee, but, as a result of having the equipment to deal with stings insects, we also deal with wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets. This includes real-time identification, usually over the phone.

Yellow Jackets Orlando

Yellow jackets are an extremely aggressive wasp species. The female worker has a stinger like a syringe and can sting multiple times through two layers of clothing. When they sense an intruder, the yellow jackets will surge out of the nest at speeds of up to 22 mph. The first to find the intruder will spit a chemical on that intruder while stinging. This chemical acts like a radar, Helping other Yellow jackets to find and sting the victim. It is not unusual for a victim to receive 200 – 300 stings. The sting is extremely painful and the effects can last for 16 – 48 hours. Most experience swelling and reddened, tender skin. Some are allergic and will experience restricted breathing and respiratory collapse. Each year yellow jackets kill 15 – 30 people, mostly in south eastern states. We specialize in yellow jackets removal. We use a special vacuum to catch the yellow jackets, then we will send them to a university were they will be used to produce anti-venom for saving lives. Here in Florida we have 2 species of yellow jackets.

Wasps

How The Bee Guy Saves Bees

What sets up apart for the rest is that we will actually relocate the bees as opposed to just killing them. This process in achieved by physically removing the comb and cutting it to fit in the empty frames of a man-made hive. Using rubber bands or wire to hold it in place until the bees repair it. All this while using a special vacuum to gently capture the loose bees. Once back to the rehab yard we will reunite the bees in the vacuum catch box with the comb we removed. Actually quite an interesting process.

10 years ago my aunt and uncle had bee’s move into their shed. Not wanting to kill them, we looked everywhere for other alternatives. Finally a beekeeper, and close friend of mine, helped to remove and relocate them to my backyard. The rest is history!
